President Bola Tinubu has described Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as an “ally within the progressive fold,” despite his exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a congratulatory message on the senator’s 69th birthday, Tinubu said Kwankwaso had rendered “invaluable services” to the nation in different capacities.
According to the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President joined Kwankwaso’s family, friends and political associates to celebrate the milestone.
The President noted that the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in the aborted Third Republic, two-term Governor of Kano State, former Minister of Defence, and ex-Senator for Kano Central had “made his mark and contributed greatly to national development.”
He said Kwankwaso’s influence in the North, especially in Kano, reflected his pro-people brand of politics reminiscent of the late Mallam Aminu Kano and Alhaji Abubakar Rimi.
Tinubu recalled their shared political journey, noting that they served together in the National Assembly in 1992 and later as governors in 1999.
“Senator Kwankwaso remains a friend and ally with whom I served in the National Assembly in 1992 and later as governors in 1999. We also worked together in founding the All Progressives Congress. Although he later left the APC to establish the New Nigeria Peoples Party, it is noteworthy that he remains within the progressive fold,” the President said.
President Tinubu wished the former Kano governor good health and many more years of service to the country.
