MORE than 50 survivors of the recent attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, are receiving medical care for injuries sustained during the assault, which also impacted the neighboring Nuku community. Victims suffered varying injuries, including gunshot wounds.
Senator Sadiq Umar, representing Kwara North Senatorial District, visited some of the injured, expressing sympathy and describing the attack as heartbreaking.
He prayed for their swift recovery and assured them of his support throughout their treatment.
The lawmaker also commended President Bola Tinubu for deploying security forces under Operation Savannah Shield to restore peace and apprehend the attackers.
He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for a swift response, including directing the State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief to affected residents.
Senator Umar called for sustained security operations across Kwara North, urged residents to remain united and hopeful, and reaffirmed his commitment to their well-being.
Following the attack, the Inspector-General of Police ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational, and intelligence units to Kaiama.
The Nigerian Police Force condemned the incident and confirmed a manhunt is underway for the perpetrators.
Gunmen attacked Woro and Nuku communities on Tuesday, killing at least 75 people, setting shops and a traditional ruler’s residence on fire, and forcing residents to flee.
While some reports suggested higher casualties, the Kwara State Police confirmed the death toll at 75. Governor AbdulRazaq described the massacre as a “pure massacre,” noting that at least 75 victims have been buried.
President Tinubu has also deployed an army battalion to reinforce security under Operation Savannah Shield.
Political groups, including the Northern States Governors’ Forum, have condemned the killings as barbaric.
