La Marque house cleaner murdered: Police say a man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman found at a home on Green Gay Lane

La Marque, Texas (KTRK) – Authorities said a cleaning company owner, Maria Rios, was arrested and found dead in a new home in the La Marque area.

Carlos Heriberto Lara Balcazar, 34, was arrested Thursday while officers were executing a warrant for tampering with physical evidence, according to La Marque police.

Rios was found dead Tuesday in a home on the 1300 block of Green Jay Lane near Delaney Road. Authorities said that during their investigation into her murder, they found information that led them to dispose of evidence in a dumpster on the 3000 block of Golfcrest Blvd in Houston.

Ignored evidence led authorities to identify Lara Balcazar as a suspect, and he was found in an apartment complex at 2505 Broadway. He was treated for injuries he sustained during his arrest Thursday, and then transferred to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office jail for treatment.

While the cause of Rios’ death is unknown, police said Lara Balcazar knew her, and the accident was not “random.”

No further information has been released regarding their relationship.
