Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan have finally been released with much fanfare and sky-high expectations. Both films had high expectations from the trade and were expected to end the dry spell at the box office. However, initial reports of opening day gathering disappointed trading experts.

According to the UK Time News report, both films opened with only 15% occupancy in the early morning shows. While Kumar’s family drama received critical acclaim, Khan’s LSC failed to impress many critics. The portal quoted an exhibitor from Delhi as confirming the low opening. He stated: “The occupancy rate for Laal Singh Chaddha is about 15-20 percent in multiplexes and for Raksha Bandhan it is even lower, as much as 12 percent in some halls for the first shows. This is very disappointing.”

According to the tweet of trading expert Sumit Kadel, both films failed to top the opening day collection of Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.

Here’s the tweet

For the inexperienced, Bhool Bhulaiyaa earned 2 Rs 14.11 crores. So it looks like LSC and Raksha Bandhan will earn less than the BB 2 collection. The festive releases will have an extended weekend. With the early trends, Akshay Kumar’s family drama can earn more than Aamir Khan’s LSC. Speaking of Laal Singh Chaddha, the film has received mixed reviews. On the one hand, critics hailed the attempt to adapt a cult classic like Forrest Gump as “honest.” On the other hand, there are those who point to the slow second half of the film, Aamir’s unacceptable Punjabi and the similarities in his performance.

Self-proclaimed critic mocking KRK in his tweet, KRK wrote: “Film #LaalSinghChaddha has the worst opening of the year. Film has 10% opening in BC centers and 20% opening in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune etc. It is the lowest opening of a film by Aamir in the past 10 years.” Laal Singh Chaddha is directed by Advait Chauhan and Raksha Bandhan is directed by Aanand L Rai.
