Nigeria • Drama hit the Labour Party recently as reports surfaced that individuals had broken into the party’s National Secretariat late at night, allegedly taking documents amid ongoing leadership disputes.
But Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media and spokesperson to the Interim National Chairman, has dismissed claims that the arrested suspects were party members. Watch How It Happened.
Speaking on The Volume Pod on Saturday, March 7, 2026, Asogwa explained that the people picked up by the police were “unknown to the party”. He stressed that investigations are ongoing to determine who sent them and to fully connect the dots behind the incident.
“This happened during a leadership crisis, so some fingers were pointed at past leadership,” he said. “But the people the police picked are answering questions now.”
Despite the drama, the Labour Party is moving forward with its national engagement initiatives, focusing on expanding membership and strengthening grassroots support. Asogwa revealed that just two days ago, the party launched a nationwide stakeholder summit involving NLC, TUC, and other labour groups, aiming to hit a target of 10 million new registrations across Nigeria in the next two months.
Asogwa concluded, “We’ve gone beyond the break-in. Our focus is now on mobilizing Nigerians to join the Labour Party and building a stronger, united platform for the future.”
