THE Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has published its Air Quality Index, revealing that Agege and Surulere rank as the cities with the most hazardous and very unhealthy air quality, respectively, in the state.
According to the index released yesterday, Agege recorded a staggering 103 percent (hazardous), indicating poor air quality for its residents.
Surulere follows with a score of 76.1 percent (very unhealthy), Mushin at 47.3 percent (unhealthy), and LAMATA Kosefe with 46 percent (unhealthy).
The Apapa Port comes next at 36.4 percent (unhealthy), while Badagry scores 23.8 percent (unhealthy for sensitive groups), Moloney Street at 20.7 percent (unhealthy for sensitive groups), Egbeda at 15.7 percent (moderate), and NIMET Oshodi at 14.1 percent (moderate).
The General Hospital in Ikeja has a score of 12.6 percent (moderate), and LSDPC Estate on Lagos Island is at 12.1 percent (moderate).
On the other end, Lekki stands out with the best air quality score of 10.1 percent, while LASEPA rated its own performance at 7.6 percent (good air quality).
In response to the index, LASEPA acknowledged the suboptimal air quality but reassured Lagos residents that it is actively working to improve the air quality across the state.
