The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos has been thrown into deep mourning following the death of Oluwafemi Olawale Adefulire, the only son of former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Princess Adejoke Orelope‑Adefulire.
The deceased, a medical doctor based in the United Kingdom, reportedly died early Wednesday after undergoing an undisclosed surgical procedure in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
A family source confirmed the tragedy to Vanguard, noting that Adefulire is survived by his wife and children. The news has left political associates and family members visibly shaken across Lagos and beyond.
In a condolence message on Thursday, Lagos APC Spokesman Seye Oladejo expressed the party’s shock and sorrow over the loss.
“It’s sadly true. The kind of incident is most dreadful for parents. APC is devastated,” Oladejo told Vanguard.
“Princess Adejoke Orelope‑Adefulire is an exceptionally good person. The entire party structure has been thrown into mourning over this humongous tragedy. May his precious soul rest in peace,” he added.
Princess Adejoke Orelope‑Adefulire is a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, having served as the Deputy Governor of Lagos State from 2011 to 2015 under former Governor Babatunde Fashola.
She currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a position she first held under former President Muhammadu Buhari and was reappointed to in 2023.
A respected administrator and social worker, she previously served as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation from 2003 to 2011. She is also the APC Political Apex Leader of Alimosho Federal Constituency and a member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the apex decision‑making body of the Lagos APC.
As of press time, the family had not released further details regarding funeral arrangements.
