Lagos consumes 3,000 cows everyday – Hamzat

Dr Obafemi Hamzat Deputy Governor Lagos State 1062x598 1

THE Lagos State Government has announced that around 3,000 cows are slaughtered daily to meet the needs of its residents.

This information was shared by the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, during an interview titled Nigeria’s Challenging Economy: Strategies for Recovery, held in celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.

“We are developing a logistics hub in Imota, the largest of its kind in this region. This will enable us to monitor the livestock coming into Lagos,” Hamzat explained.

He further added, “Lagos slaughters approximately 3,000 cows every day. The question is, where are they coming from, and how can we track them? Currently, if there’s an issue, our veterinary doctors slaughter and incinerate the affected animals, but we must improve this process.”

The Deputy Governor also mentioned the state’s initiative to store grains sufficient for nine months to support Lagos residents.
