The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Festac Police Station, Superintendent of Police Matilda Ngbaronye, has passed away.

In a statement on Saturday, Abimbola Adebisi, spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, said Ngbaronye died after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, on Friday, October 24, 2025.

Adebisi described the late officer as “a truly upright and dedicated officer who served with unwavering professionalism and integrity.”

While the statement did not disclose the illness that led to the surgery, Adebisi noted that Ngbaronye was widely respected for her discipline, diligence, and humane approach to policing.

“Her friendly disposition and humane approach to policing greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public she dutifully served. At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities,” the statement read.

Adebisi added that Commissioner of Police (CP) has personally reached out to her husband and elder brother, a priest, to convey the Command’s condolences and support.

He said details regarding burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
