The tragic incident involving the sudden death of a two-year-old pupil at Smiley Kids Montessori School, Sangotedo, Lagos Island, has prompted a comprehensive investigation by the Lagos State Government.
Naijaonpoint reports that the child, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly passed away on Wednesday, January 15.
Her grieving mother, using the handle Ellla@AbiaPrincess_X on X (formerly Twitter), shared her anguish and demanded answers, questioning the school’s initial explanation of drowning.
She alleged foul play, suggesting her daughter might have been electrocuted and her body placed in the pool to simulate a drowning incident.
The mother highlighted the presence of a high barricade around the pool, questioning how her toddler could have accessed it.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), led by Permanent Secretary Mrs. Titilayo Adeniyi-Vivour, has assured the public of a thorough investigation.
A Lagos State Task Force on Safeguarding and Child Protection, involving multiple government agencies such as the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, and Lagos State Safety Commission, has been deployed to the school for fact-finding.
Additionally, the case is being pursued with the police at the Ogombo Division and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further investigation and potential prosecution.
The DSVA expressed condolences to the bereaved family and reiterated its commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served.
