LAGOS: Man docked for alleged theft of seven cows worth N5.6m

Police on Thursday arraigned a 47-year-old man, Adamu Mohammed, at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged theft of seven cows worth N5.6million.

Police charged the defendant with fraud and theft.

The prosecution counsel, Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant and another suspect at large on Sept. 9, 2022, conspired and stole seven cows worth N5.6 million in the Epe area of Lagos State.

Ikhayere, who said the cows belong to Mr. and Mrs. Ibrahim Chede, alleged that the defendant sold the cows but failed to remit the money to the couple.

She said the offence was punishable under Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mr. Lateef Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Owolabi ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant.

He adjourned the case till August 12 for hearing.
