LAGOS: Nine arrested for open defecation

Nine Arrested For Open Defecation In Lagos

NINE individuals have been arrested for engaging in open defecation in the Berger area of the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced this in a post on X.com today stating that the arrests were made yesterday by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps.

He wrote, “Nine individuals were arrested for open urination and defecation at Berger last night.”

Wahab had previously reported that 17 people were arrested on Thursday night at Berger for open urination, defecation, and failing to use the pedestrian bridge.

The state government’s zero-tolerance policy on open defecation is part of a broader initiative to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for its residents.

Additionally, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has begun cleaning up the Ojodu-Berger highway median as part of its efforts to eradicate open defecation.
