A new academic programme focused on the politics, leadership style, and policy direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to take off at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening political education and grooming future leaders through structured ideological training.
Following a partnership between the BAT Ideological Group and LASUSTECH, the programme will be housed under the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Institute of Politics and Policies.
The collaboration is designed to create a formal platform for political leadership development, governance studies, and ideological orientation within a university setting.
The agreement was reached during a strategic meeting between the leadership of the BAT Ideological Group and the management of LASUSTECH. The delegation was led by the group’s convener, Bamidele Atoyebi. Other members present included the group’s Patron, Alhaji Tejumade Isa Onirin, Oyo State coordinator, Professor Fayomi Oluyemi, and the Oyo State woman leader, Dr Bisi Akin Alabi.
On the side of the university, the delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya. He was joined by other principal officers, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Abiodun Denloye, the Registrar, Mr David Ogungbe, the Bursar, Mr Oki Olashile, and the Dean of Student Affairs, Engr Owoeye Olaniyi David.
Speaking after the meeting, Atoyebi disclosed that the group submitted a detailed proposal for the establishment of a School of Politics and Policies within the university. He explained that the institute is expected to function as a national centre for political training, leadership development, and governance research.
He said both parties agreed that academic and professional activities of the institute would begin within the next two to three months.
According to him, LASUSTECH has already made provisions for a temporary facility to ensure immediate take-off of the programme, while plans are underway for a permanent structure.
Atoyebi noted that the proposed permanent building will be designed to reflect the national importance and long-term vision of the institute. He added that the institute was created in response to what he described as a growing leadership gap within Nigeria’s political system.
According to him, the institute will run structured programmes at Diploma, Master’s, and Doctoral levels. It will also offer professional certifications, fellowships, and targeted ideological training for both aspiring and established political actors across the country.
He described the initiative as a landmark development in Nigeria’s academic and political history. He stated that the institute would be the first university-based political institution in the country to be named after a sitting President.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represents “not merely a political figure, but an institution of leadership, ideology, and governance whose political philosophy warrants academic interrogation and institutional preservation.”
Atoyebi praised the management of LASUSTECH for what he described as bold and forward-thinking leadership. He said the university’s decision to host the institute reflects a commitment to national development through education and leadership grooming.
He also commended members of the BAT Ideological Group for their role in promoting political education, ideological clarity, and democratic development in Nigeria.
