Larry Wilmore is all set to host the Academy Awards podcast 2023

Larry Wilmore is gearing up to host Podcast Academy Awards, also known as the Ambies, in 2023.

Larry Wilmore to host this year’s Podcast Academy Awards

Podcast Academy Awards is scheduled to take place on 7th March at the International Theater in Las Vegas.

Moreover, the ceremony and awards pre-show will reportedly be live-streamed on Twitch and will start around 4:30 p.m. PT.

In addition, recent news suggests that Larry Wilmore will take the stage at this year’s event.

Meanwhile, Donald Albright, the chairperson of The Podcast Academy and CEO of Tenderfoot TV talked about Wilmore hosting the awards.

He said, ‘Larry’s prolific body of work and unique humor spans the stage, screen, and podcasting. To say that we are lucky to have him host this year’s Ambies is an understatement.’

Albright continued, ‘He’s an icon in his own right. We cannot wait to see — and hear — what he will bring to the ceremony.’

The podcast 9/12 bagged the most prizes at the Ambie Awards last year. Besides, that other winners included Rosamund Pike for her work in QCode’s Edith. 

Additionally, former NPR host Sam Sanders took home the award for his performance as a host on It’s Been a Minute. 

Ambie Awards 2022 was held at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles.

More about Larry Wilmore

Larry Wilmore was born Elister Larry Wilmore on 30th October 1961 in Los Angeles County, California, to parents Betty and Larry. However, he was brought up in suburban Pomona.

Additionally, he completed his studies at Damien High School in La Verne, California in 1979. 

Wilmore then attended the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona to study theatre. However, he dropped from college in order to pursue acting and stand-up comedy.

Consequently, he described himself as a nerd in a previous interview.

He said, ‘There’s a comic figure where it’s okay to just be a nerd and be black.’

In addition, he is currently hosting Black on the Air. It is a show that airs on The Ringer Podcast Network. 

Moreover, personalities such as Kerry Washington, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Regina Hall, B.J. Novak, Wanda Sykes, and Judd Apatow have made appearances on the show.

Wilmore is also the co-creator of Insecure alongside Issa Rae as well as Grown-ish with Kenya Barris.
