Nigerian show promoter Paulo Okoye has defended music star Davido against those criticizing him over his statement on Africa’s economy being in shambles.

Kemi Filani reported that Davido, in a recent interview, had issued a stern warning to black Americans against relocating to Africa. He warned them against making such moves, as he made them know that it wasn’t cool in Africa as the economy was in shambles. Davido, however, made it known that he wasn’t badmouthing Africa; rather, he aimed to show off the little parts and leave the slums out of the frame.

His statement didn’t sit well with many who heavily criticized him for it.

Coming to his defense, Paulo told them to leave the singer alone as he concurred that Davido spoke the truth. He noted how Nigeria’s current economic state is bad with global companies leaving and local businesses facing significant losses.

He stated that it is clear that we’re facing challenges as he admonished Nigerians to learn to acknowledge reality and work towards a better future.

“Please make una leave Davido alone, mad people.

Recall that former aide to Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri had slammed Davido for his lack of patriotism and ignorance. He questioned how the economy was in shambles when Wizkid broke streaming records on Spotify Nigeria with his new album, Morayo. He urged the singer to learn from American singer Rihanna, who never talks down on her country, and instead uses her celebrity status to promote Barbados and project it positively to the world.

TVC Your View presenter, Nymat had questioned what service Davido had done for the masses, as she noted how American celebrities wouldn’t badmouth their country to foreigners. Akashat urged the singer to be more guarded in his utterances, especially about the country that has given him fame.
