PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has rewarded D’Tigress with cash gifts, apartments and national honours for their triumph at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

D’Tigress defeated Mali 78-64 in last night’s final to make history as the first team ever to win the Women’s AfroBasket title five times in a row.

It was the Nigerian ladies’ seventh African title overall.

Like the Super Falcons who won their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title just over a week ago in Morocco, D’Tigress met with President Tinubu and got similar rewards.

Each of the 12 D’Tigress players on the AfroBasket roster has been promised $100,000, a three-bedroom apartment in Abuja, and the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour.

Each member of the D’Tigress technical crew will also receive $50,000 each, in addition to being honoured with national awards.

President Tinubu announced the rewards at a reception organised for the women’s basketball national team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, today.

The President, who was represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, commended the team for making Nigeria proud.
