Lil Durk is pushing back against a proposed delay that would move the start of his murder-for-hire trial to January 2026.
In a joint motion filed on Friday, federal prosecutors and attorneys for several of Durk’s co-defendants requested that the judge postpone the trial, currently scheduled for October 14, 2025, arguing that the case is “so unusual and so complex” that the defense teams need additional time to prepare.
But Durk and his legal team want the trial to move forward quickly after already being postponed once.
Durk is accused of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot targeting fellow rapper Quando Rondo in 2022. Prosecutors allege he directed members of his Only the Family (OTF) crew to carry out a hit that killed Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, who was sitting in a vehicle with Rondo at the time of the attack.
Duek was originally scheduled to appear in court on January 7, 2025, but agreed to push the date after prosecutors requested extra time to handle the all of the evidence… roughly 230 GB of digital files, including surveillance video, audio recordings, and 20,000 pages of reports, witness statements, and medical records.
Though the proposed three-month delay wouldn’t violate his right to a speedy trial, it would keep him behind bars longer, which is exactly what he doesn’t want.
Durk’s bond has been denied several times, including a $4.5 million bail package that offered cash, 24/7 home detention, electronic monitoring, and private security.
“The sentence is mandatory life without parole, which could make flight the rational choice for any innocent defendant,” U.S. District Judge Michael Fitzgerald said in a previous ruling.
