Cambage was born on August 18, 1991, in London, to a Nigerian father as well as an Australian mother, Julia Cambage. She moved to Australia with her mother when she was three months old, after her parents separated.
She grew up in Melbourne and began playing basketball at the age of 10. She joined Camberwell Girls Grammar School and Box Hill Senior Secondary College, where she played for the school teams. She also performed for the Dandenong Rangers in the Australian Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) from 2007 to 2010.

Cambage rose to fame as a basketball player in Australia as well as internationally. She made her debut for the Australian Opals national team at the age of 18, becoming the youngest Australian to play at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
