Former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Abia State, Don Ubani, has claimed that the state’s local governments have been hijacked.
Naijaonpoint reports that Ubani made this known on Tuesday, during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’ programme.
Speaking on governance issues in Abia State, Ubani said local government funds do not reach the councils.
He said, “Nothing is happening in Abia State. The local governments have been hijacked, their funds don’t get to the council.
“That’s why as we speak now, the High Court in Okwa West LGA has been overgrown by weeds to the extent that workers in the court have threatened to get relocation to Aba.
“This is because the council has no money to clear the weeds in and around the court. This is the governor that know that constitutionally speaking, the positions of Permanent Secretary are political.”
In other news, the Abia State Government has accused opposition politicians of trying to create a rift between Governor Alex Otti and President Bola Tinubu for political gain.
In a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Policies and Interventions, Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, the government alleged that former governors and past political office holders were plotting to challenge the leadership of Otti.
The accusation comes amidst reports that three former governors, now in the APC, were allegedly plotting to unseat Otti and dislodge the Labour Party from power in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Anokwuru warned that the growing reliance on President Tinubu’s name by opposition figures to attack the Otti administration amounted to “forced enmity” and deliberate misrepresentation.
