Logitech G is announcing a new gaming keyboard today, the G915 X, an ultra-low profile keyboard for the gamer who likes to keep their setup sleek and slim. The follow-up to Logitech G’s popular G915 from a few years ago, the G915 X is the same gaming keyboard you know and love, but with notable updated features and improvements. There are a few new features, too.
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about the G915 X (if you’re familiar with the G915) is the connectivity port. Specifically, what kind it is. The G915 was such a good keyboard but its one major letdown is that it still used micro USB. Logitech has laid that antiquated connectivity option to rest and the new G915 X comes with a USB-C port for a more reliable connection. This is arguably one of the better changes. However, there are many more included in this refresh that will have gamers clamoring to add this keyboard to their setup.
The Logitech G915 X gaming keyboard includes a new switch design
One of the bigger changes Logitech G made to the keyboard is its new switch style. The old G915 keyboard used a hook-style switch. The G915 X now uses a cross-style switch that will be easier for users to replace. They will still need to be ultra-low profile switches, but they’re now much more user-swappable for added customization. The new cross-style switch also makes the keyboard quieter to type on. Logitech G performed a series of typing tests for us that compared both the old and new keyboards and the G915 X is noticeably quieter.
Logitech G has also decreased the actuation point from 1.5mm to 1.3mm. The keycaps have been updated as well. The G915 X now uses double-shot shine-through PBT keycaps. These will be more resistant to wear from constant use, Logitech G says. If you use your keyboard for several hours a day, this is really meant for you. Because there should be much less of an issue with the key characters rubbing off further into the keyboard’s lifespan.
Game all day, game all night with extended battery life
Another big improvement? Battery life. The Logitech G915 X comes in two different wireless models – the full-size and the tenkeyless (TKL), and both have had their batteries updated for quite honestly some pretty wild longevity. The full-size model can last for up to 800 hours. Meanwhile, the TKL model can now last for up to 1,000 hours. There are some caveats there, of course. These longer cycles are with the backlighting turned off.
That being said, even the battery life on a single charge with the backlighting set to 100% has been improved. The full-size in this state will now last up to 36 hours, while the TKL gets a bump to a maximum of 42 hours. You can also still use both models in wired mode with the USB-C cable. In terms of wireless connectivity, the keyboard still uses the Lightspeed 2.4GHz dongle and Bluetooth. Plus, you can still connect two different devices and swap between them using the dedicated Lightspeed and Bluetooth buttons that sit along the top edge.
Additionally, the G915 X now supports the KEYCONTROL feature that was launched with the G Pro X 60. Giving you infinite possibilities with your macros using a single key press. This feature was also included with the G515 TKL that launched earlier this Summer. The Logitech G915 X comes in Black and White, and it’ll be available starting from September 17. The full-size model retails for $229.99, the TKL retails for $199.99, and the wired model retails for $179.99 (the wired model only comes in black).
Logitech also offers a few different switch options. Both the full-size and TKL models can come with either linear, tactile, or clicky switches. The wired model will come with either linear or tactile. These can all be picked up from Logitech G starting today and at retailers like Best Buy in the near future.
