Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has prayed to God to help citizens get a second independence from those she described as domestic colonialists.
Ezekwesili said Nigeria breaks her heart because of poor leadership that took over the country after 64 years of independence from Britain.
In her Independence Day message on Tuesday, the good governance advocate noted that Nigeria needs to be free from politicians who are mismanaging the country’s resources and impoverishing the citizens.
Mrs Ezekwesili wrote on her X handle, “Nothing and I mean nothing, can ever take away the deeper joy of love of country and people that one feels as the plane safely touches down at home after travels abroad.
“No matter how the conditions of our country, Nigeria, break our hearts, I often take solace in the scripture- Hope Maketh Not Ashamed. Hope is inexhaustible as I often encourage myself to say.
“As we arrived home on this 64th Independence Day, my hopeful heart prayed: Lord support your people’s efforts for a Second Independence- this time from their domestic colonialists who instead of governing for our Common Good have serially chosen to subvert public office for selfish personal interest.
“May our Lord, The Good-Good Father strengthen our hearts, my fellow citizens, this Independence Day.”
