Members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) are set to converge in Lokoja this Saturday in search of lasting peace, as clashes between herders and farmers continue to unsettle rural belts across the state.
The meeting notice was announced on Tuesday, November 27, 2025, by the Kogi State chairman of MACBAN, Umar Yusuf Damina, alongside his secretary, Adamu Mohammed, during a press briefing in Lokoja.
Damina said the gathering had become imperative, given the rising security pressures weighing on Fulani herders, especially as disputes over grazing rights and alleged crop destruction escalate.
“Fulani herders living in Kogi are meeting in Lokoja, the state headquarters, on Saturday, in view of the present insecurity situation. Members are expected to review the frequent Fulani–farmers clashes across the state and find a suitable, lasting solution to it,” he said.
The chairman urged all members to attend the meeting scheduled for November 29, 2025, stressing that the group would critically examine the root causes of the rifts to minimise future flare-ups.
Several agrarian communities across Kogi have recently accused herders’ cattle of destroying farmlands and crops, sparking tensions in local governments, particularly around the eastern axis.
Naijaonpoint reports that barely two months ago, parts of Kogi East saw desperate interventions, as herders in select local governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding with host communities, brokered in the presence of security operatives, to scale down hostilities.
Damina also appealed for heightened vigilance, warning MACBAN members to stay alert amid a worsening national security climate.
“All members must be vigilant and security-conscious. The crisis of insecurity has bedevilled our society and every citizen has a role to play,” he added.
