An aide to former New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, Folashade Aliu, has condemned the United States proposed sanctions against her principal.
Naijaonpoint reports that United States lawmakers initiated a new bill aimed at increasing accountability for human rights abuses in Nigeria.
The legislation, the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026, contains provisions for potential sanctions against Fulani militias and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
However, Aliu asserted that the sanctions were politically motivated, insisting that Kwankwaso is a nationalist and a person of good character.
She stated this on Thursday when she featured in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’, adding that the move was seriously malicious.
She said, “There is no indication that Kwankwaso has anything to do with religious bigotry or terrorism.
“So that is how I want to present it to you that this whole thing is seriously malicious and politically motivated.
“Kwankwaso is a nationalist and a person of good character; his running mate and some of his employees are Christians.
“Then let me also say, if you look at that bill, it’s talking about the fact that Kwankwaso is the first governor that has something to do with Sharia, which is not correct.”
