Man City spot opportunity to sign in-demand Argentine teammate of Julian Alvarez

Enzo Fernandez trying to get away from Guillermo Fernandez during River Plate v Boca Juniors

Manchester City could turn their forthcoming signing of Julian Alvarez into a double deal after also reportedly making his River Plate teammate Enzo Fernandez a target.

A deal for Manchester City to sign Alvarez was made official on January 31st. As part of the agreement, the promising attacker is remaining with River Plate on loan.

While monitoring his development, the Premier League champions may also have come across someone else of interest.

According to journalist Sergio Gonzalez, River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez is now also under consideration by Manchester City.

In fact, there has been an approach to his entourage to lay the groundworks for a potential transfer. There is yet to be a formal offer, though.

Fernandez is a year younger than Alvarez. The 21-year-old has been amassing first-team experience in Argentina, though.

To date, he has played 34 times for the River Plate first team. In the process, he has provided four goals and five assists. That has included two goals and two assists from nine appearances in the current campaign.

River Plate have him under contract until the end of 2025. Should Manchester City firm up their interest, though, the two clubs may be doing business again before that date.

Enzo Fernandez attracting European elite

Fernandez has also been linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Inter and AC Milan in recent days. It seems that Europe’s elite are all keeping tabs on his progress.

Whether the pre-existing relationship between Man City and River Plate after the Alvarez deal could give the Premier League club an advantage is unclear at this moment in time.

But if they are to win the battle for his signature, it would be an interesting move for the future of their midfield. It is currently a well-stocked department, with the likes of Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva all capable of performing there.

Fernandez would likely have to bide his time while waiting for a breakthrough. However, by acting early, City could get ahead of the curve and ensure they do not miss out on someone who could be a useful player further in the future.

‘The piece they need’ – Arteta and Arsenal identify signing, player expected to move

A week ago, we relayed news from Spain that Arsenal are in the picture for Álvaro Morata and he will not continue at Atlético Madrid for ‘various reasons’.

The striker is on loan at Juventus and they have an option to make his stay permanent for €35m. On Wednesday, Corriere dello Sport reported the Serie A side are ready to offer €15m plus €5m in bonuses.

AS have responded to Corriere’s claims and also mention Arsenal in today’s edition of the newspaper.

The Turin club’s offer of €15m plus bonuses ‘does not satisfy’ the La Liga side. The latter are aware it is ‘complicated’ to receive €35m from Juve, especially after they took Dušan Vlahović from Fiorentina in January.

Diego Simeone’s side are also aware the Spain international has a ‘good line-up on the international market’ and therefore, will not give him away to Juve or another club. In recent months, Arsenal and Barcelona ‘have joined as suitors’ of the 29-year-old.

The Gunners and Barca have the ex-Chelsea man on their ‘agenda’ this summer.

AS further explain the north London club, with Mikel Arteta at the helm, ‘understand that he is the piece they need’ next season. However, a lack of Champions League football next season could ‘work against’ Arsenal this summer.

The Premier League side are fifth in the table with 66 points, and are two points behind fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur have been regularly named as a contender for Alessandro Bastoni this year.

On April 23rd, Calciomercato reported the north London club are willing to ‘sit at the table’ to sign the Inter Milan player.

It was also explained that Antonio Conte’s disciple is ‘strongly wanted’ by Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

The defender knows the Spurs manager well as he played under him for two years at Inter. The Italy international made a mark for the Serie A giants after the ex-Chelsea boss arrived at the San Siro.

FcInter1908 now state the 23-year-old’s agent, Tullio Tinti, recently had a meeting with Nerazzurri sporting director, Piero Ausilio.

The representative found out his client could be one of the players to be sacrificed by the Italian club, since he is among those to receive ‘most requests’.

There is ‘nothing defined’ as of now, but ‘something is moving’ for the centre-back in the Premier League, where Tottenham Hotspur are named as his suitor. It’s claimed Antonio Conte’s side are ‘following him with particular interest’.

FcInter1908 explain there has not been any negotiations, nor has the player received any offers so far. However, there is an awareness from both Bastoni and his entourage that he is no longer untouchable at Inter.

It’ll be interesting to see how this case develops in the coming months.
