This stunned the home side and gave the visiting fans something to cheer about, but City responded after a pep talk at halftime. Mateo Kovačić restored parity with a brilliant effort from the edge of the box, beating Simon Mignolet.
A few minutes later, a defensive mix-up saw a Club Brugge player deflect a shot into his own net, handing City the lead.
The Belgian side’s attempts to equalise proved futile as Savinho connected with a perfect cross from John Stones, controlling the ball well before firing in an accurate strike.

The victory earned Manchester City three crucial points in the Champions League league format, easing their concerns of an early exit following a poor run of form across all competitions.
Despite the defeat, Onyedika, making his 14th appearance in the tournament, registered his first goal in the prestigious competition. The Super Eagles midfielder, having impressed on the night, will be hoping to carry this form into Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.
