City police chief Troy Finner said at least four people were killed and two injured on Sunday morning (local time) after a man set fire to a building and then shot at people who had fled.

At a press conference, the police chief said the suspect was among the four dead, UKTN reported. The suspect was later killed by a Houston police officer.

Finner said the victims were all men and range in age from 40 to 60.

“This suspect has unfortunately, and very sadly and very maliciously, set fire to several residents,” said Mr. Finner during the press conference as quoted by UKTN.

The suspect then lay in wait for the residents to come out and shoot them,” he said. The fire service arrived first to extinguish the fire, but had to withdraw from the gunman on arrival, the police official said.

“The suspect started firing. I don’t know if he fired in their direction, but they had to take cover,” Finner said.

He said the suspect was a 40-year-old African-American man dressed in all black.

Last week, one person was killed and six others injured in an apparently targeted shooting in the US state of Maryland.

One victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical personnel, police said. All victims are adult males.

Witnesses reported that the suspect vehicle is a 4-door silver Lexus sedan.

“On Aug. 24, 2022, at approximately 12:24 a.m., officers from the Northwest District were called to the intersection of Shirley Avenue and Park Heights Avenue to investigate a reported shooting,” Baltimore Police Department said in a statement posted on Facebook.

Before that, a man set fire to his car and drove into a U.S. Capitol barricade late at night, according to UKTN News. The unidentified man reportedly fired a weapon at random and then shot himself.
