The head of the Dantokpa Market project in Akassato, Commissioner Bignon Delcoz Kindjanhounde, has been arrested by security operatives in the Benin Republic for alleged high treason, following inflammatory statements made against the government.

Kindjanhounde, a second-class police commissioner appointed in June 2023 by President Patrice Talon, was taken into custody on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, after days of being declared wanted.

His arrest comes in the wake of a failed coup attempt on Sunday, December 7, which further intensified political tensions in the West African nation.

The embattled commissioner had earlier drawn national attention after videos surfaced in early December, showing him making incendiary remarks and openly calling for the destabilisation of the Republic’s institutions.

Security analysts say the timing and content of the videos appeared to signal foreknowledge of the failed coup.

Renowned security expert, Brant Phlip, confirmed Kindjanhounde’s arrest in a post on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), noting the officer’s role in stoking anti-government sentiment.

“The police officer and ‘actor’ Delcoz Kindjanhounde has been arrested following his video where he called on the Beninese population to revolt against President Patrice Talon,” Phlip wrote.

He further disclosed, “Ironically enough, he posted the video on November 29, days before the coup, but placed a piece of paper with the date December 8 in the video.”
