Manchester United plan to sign an elite-level striker in the summer as they look for a ‘proven goalscorer’.
The Red Devils are closing in on a deal to sign Burnley striker Wout Weghorst, that is only a short-term option to take them through until the summer when the Premier League giants plan to do some real business.
The Burnley striker has spent the first half of the season on loan with Besiktas where he has bagged nine goals in 18 appearances for the Turkish club, putting him firmly on the radar of Erik ten Hag’s side.
Having scored just two in 20 in the Premier League for the Clarets last season, the 30-year-old is seen as a stop-gap option to take them through to the end of the season.
According to ESPN, they’ll then pursue a deal for Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko or Harry Kane.
Osimhen is in fine form for Napoli with the 24-year-old bagging 11 goals in 16 this term, and 39 in 78 in total for the Serie A side.
Sesko is more raw in profile at the age of 19, however he’s still managed five goals and three assists in 16 appearances for RB Leipzig this term.
As for Kane, his form in the Premier League has been clear for all to see. having scored 15 goals in 18 appearances for Tottenham to close the gap on Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record.

However with his Spurs contract due to expire in 2024, it means that the summer could be the last chance for Daniel Levy to attract a substantial fee for the striker.
Otherwise the north London risk the unthinkable of losing one of the best players in their history for absolutely nothing.
With it suggested Man United are making signing a new striker ‘their prime objective’, it’s clear to see that they intend to spend big in order to bring in their first premium attacker since Romelu Lukaku joined for £75million from Everton back in 2017.
However, their hopes of landing a world-class talent may hinge on Champions League football, and so Weghorst could have a big role to play at Old Trafford as Ten Hag seeks to maintain their place in the top-four.
