Everything Marvel had previously established about the X-Men‘s power rankings has been rewritten by Doctor Doom. Since he became Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Doom has remained virtually unstoppable. The Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and even a group of powerful former villains have joined forces to oppose Doom, to no avail. The magical knowledge the Sorcerer Supreme title entails simply takes Doctor Doom to the next level.
During the final battle against Doctor Doom, Earth’s evil emperor evades and recovers from every single attack the heroes come up with. Doom has a back-up plan for each of the heroes’ strategies, and he can easily improvise when he doesn’t. For example, Doom effortlessly brushes off Mister Fantastic’s Scientist Supreme transformation, the Fantastic Four’s time travel efforts, and all heroes’ combined energy attack.
As both sides of the conflict grow impatient, Doom unleashes new attacks that severely weaken the heroes, including one that leaves every single mutant on the ground.
Doctor Doom Temporarily Turns Off Every Mutant’s X-Gene With A Flick Of His Finger

In One World Under Doom #8, Doctor Doom feels insulted that several X-Men manage to knock him off his feet. Doom admits he has “permitted mutants their powers for too long” and reveals that “anything an X-Gene expresses… can be unexpressed by one with mastery supreme of chaos magic.” To retaliate, Doom shoots a green blast of energy onto the battlefield, depowering every mutant hero.
While Doctor Doom’s mutant-depowering spell is temporary, it proves that any magic-wielding character with enough control over chaos magic can neutralize all mutants without breaking a sweat. Scarlet Witch accidentally achieves a more permanent effect after an emotional breakdown in House of M, but Doctor Doom weaponizes the same power consciously, simply pointing his finger towards his mutant enemies. Chaos magic has become the ultimate threat to mutantkind.
Scarlet Witch’s famous “no more mutants” spell affects non-mutant characters and Earth’s non-powered population alike, which means it rewrites reality. Doctor Doom’s spell specifically targets the mutant heroes’ X-Gene, which he explains can be “unexpressed” with chaos magic like one would turn off a light by flipping a switch. Omega-level mutants like Storm, who recently reached the heights of cosmic entities, drop like flies.
Doctor Doom Proves Nothing Comes Close To Magic In Terms Of Power
Magic Can Accomplish Practically Anything In The Marvel Universe
Power-scaling is already tricky in the Marvel Universe, especially when it comes to mutants’ constantly-evolving abilities. X-Men like Storm, Jean Grey, and Magneto occasionally become Earth’s most powerful characters, while heroes like Domino, Darwin, and Isca naturally possess mutations that make them almost unbeatable by definition. Yet, Doctor Doom or Scarlet Witch can come in and completely negate all their mutations at any time.
Magic transcends biology, physics, and cosmic law. Although mutant powers have defined limits rooted in genetics, magic operates without boundaries, fully capable of overriding any rule. By tapping into the right source of magical power, any Marvel character could instantly surpass even the most powerful Omega-level mutants. The biggest challenge is accessing it.
