Marvel has just dropped a bombshell for X-Men fans, teasing an era even darker than the one mutants are currently facing. This new chapter brings higher stakes, the return of key series, and fresh launches, including highly anticipated solo titles for fan-favorite characters like Deadpool and Cyclops.
If you’ve been following Marvel news, you know this fall marks the start of the mutant crisis event, Age of Revelation. Set ten years in the future, it depicts a mutant utopia ruled by the heir to Apocalypse, Doug “Revelation” Ramsey, while the deadly X-Virus ravages America.
Yet the Age of Revelation is only the beginning, as Marvel has announced the X-Men’s follow-up saga, Shadows of Tomorrow, launching in January and promising the darkening of the “X-Men’s dream.”

Before the Age of Revelation even starts, Marvel is already teasing Shadows of Tomorrow, the X-Men’s follow-up saga, but information remains limited. Marvel has teased that more information will arrive next month during the Marvel Comics: X-Men Panel at New York Comic Con. Still, the publisher has already revealed a handful of titles that fans can expect to launch this next phase.
So far, Marvel has confirmed that Shadows of Tomorrow will unfold in returning series like X-Men #23, Wolverine #14, and The Uncanny X-Men #22. Even more exciting is the announcement of Cyclops #1 and Wade Wilson: Deadpool #1, which will both debut as part of the saga. Marvel has promised to announce additional titles at New York Comic Con.
The return of a Cyclops solo series is particularly noteworthy, as it has been years since his last one. His regaining a solo title feels fitting, considering his position as the X-Men’s leader. Deadpool’s new series is equally exciting, since it appears more directly tied to the X-Men line instead of the usual stand-alone adventures he is most known for.

With Shadows of Tomorrow, fans can expect stories exploring the aftermath of Age of Revelation, examining the shadow this mutant crisis casts over mutant-kind. As X-Men line editor Tom Brevoort explains, “Going into January and beyond, we’re kind of in the shadow of tomorrow, where the events going forward will all kind of live in the umbra of these events that we have just witnessed.”
Brevoort elaborates, “We’ve just seen things that have happened to all these characters 10 years down the line. As far as we’re approaching this, these are all legitimate futures. This isn’t a What If world. These things exist, as far as even the present-day characters are concerned. So, you’ll see a certain amount of reflectivity in what happens.” Clearly, both Age of Revelation and Shadows of Tomorrow will be consequential X-Men storylines.
