Marvel Comics surprised the comic industry by confirming it would discontinue its Ultimate books next year, and one of the company’s top writers, Jonathan Hickman, was also caught off guard by the decision. Hickman was, in fact, the architect of this version of the Ultimate Universe, so it is notable that he expected Marvel to keep it going.
As reported by Popverse, Marvel President Dan Buckley revealed Hickman’s reaction to the news during Marvel’s “Next Big Thing” panel at last weekend’s New York Comic Con.
Buckley recounted the moment he told Hickman Ultimate Marvel was wrapping up in 2026; Hickman’s surprise at the move raises some interesting questions about the publisher’s decision.
