A Spider-Man series that once surpassed the popularity of The Amazing Spider-Man is officially making a full-force return, thanks to a partnership between Marvel and Clover Press. Even better, one of the greatest parts of this epic comeback is that fans themselves are the reason it’s happening.

For the first time ever in softcover, Stan Lee and John Romita’s The Amazing Spider-Man Newspaper Comics are returning, after the strip originally debuted on Monday, January 3, 1977. The strip is iconic for bringing the web-slinger to breakfast tables worldwide, helping Spider-Man become a household name beyond comic book stands.

Despite their legendary status, these strips have been exceptionally hard to find, as many hardcover collections are out of print. Now, thanks to Clover Press’ crowdfunding campaign, fans can finally get their hands on CP’s new line of deluxe slipcase editions.

Spider-Man Newspaper Comics Return in Affordable Softcover Editions

Fans Drive Record-Breaking Kickstarter for Deluxe Year-by-Year Collections

On their official Kickstarter page, Clover Press notes that while The Library of American Comics remastered and collected the strip in a series of hardcover editions, many are now out of print yet still highly sought after. In response, they are now bringing these collections back in an affordable softcover format thanks to their collaboration with The Library of American Comics.

The collections present the strip strictly by year, with each volume covering one year from 1977 to 1980 and reprinting every installment from January 1 to December 31. Each volume is produced in a horizontal 11″ x 8.5″ format while the slipcases are arranged vertically for easier storage. Fans can view the artwork for all four slipcase covers above.

The Kickstarter originally aimed for $10,000 but has already raised $128,842 with 23 days remaining, exceeding twelve times its goal. This shows the excitement fans have for the project. Backers will receive all four volumes in one bundle and have opportunities for special tiers and add-ons, all detailed on the Kickstarter page.

As previously mentioned, the strip originally debuted in 1977. This exciting reprint will take fans back 47 years in the web-slinger’s history, allowing them to relive one of the most iconic newspaper strips ever printed. The original creative team consisted of writer Stan Lee and artist John Romita, though Sr. Romita left the strip in 1981.

Even after Romita’s departure, the strip continued running consistently until 2019. The newspaper strip’s stories exist in their own continuity, separate from the monthly The Amazing Spider-Man comics. Hence, this reprint brings those legendary chapters back to life, allowing both longtime fans and new readers to experience classic Spider-Man stories that they might have missed.
