The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, South-South, Emmanuel Ogidi, has expressed confidence that governors and other members who recently left the party will return soon.
Ogidi stated this while fielding questions on Arise Television’s news programme on Wednesday, insisting that despite the current challenges, the PDP remains an organized and resilient party capable of resolving its internal issues.
He dismissed concerns about alleged plans to disrupt the party’s forthcoming national convention, saying the PDP’s structures — the National Working Committee, NWC, and National Executive Committee, NEC, — are firmly in control of the process.
“There was a group planning to disrupt the convention when they met in Abuja and gave some conditions, but PDP is an organized party for God’s sake. You can’t just come out and call yourself stakeholders,” Ogidi said.
He alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, had “weaponized hunger,” influencing some individuals to act against the PDP, but maintained that those who left the party would eventually return.
“We all know why they are going, but we have strong belief they’ll come back,” he stated.
Ogidi also accused some PDP members, including governors and senators, of impatience over the timing of the party’s convention, stressing that there was no reason to doubt the process.
“Some of these governors or senators don’t have patience. The convention is just weeks away. Why are they thinking it won’t hold? We are in court, but that’s no reason to panic. If you’ve done the right thing, the court will give you justice,” he said.
Ogidi assured that the party was following due process and expressed optimism that the forthcoming convention would hold as planned.
