The United States-based tech firm Meta (formerly the Facebook company) is set to begin company-wide layoffs this week.

According to a memo from Meta’s Head of People, Janelle Gale, cited by Reuters on Monday, workers who are scheduled to lose their employment will get notifications at 5:00 a.m. local time on Monday in the majority of countries, including the U.S.

But “due to local regulations,” workers in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands are not affected by these changes.

The Vice President of Engineering for Monetization, Peng Fan, also urged employees to assist with a faster hiring process for machine learning engineers and other “business critical” positions in a different memo.

This comes days after Meta Chief Executive Officer, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that Meta is planning significant changes to Facebook in an attempt to increase the platform’s cultural influence among its three billion monthly users.
