Mike Flanagan Hopes to Reunite with Rebecca Ferguson After Doctor Sleep

i can t believe so many stephen king fans overlooked mike flanagan s impressive 78 rt adaptation

Mike Flanagan, known for his successful series such as The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Haunting of Bly Manor, is hoping to reunite with actress Rebecca Ferguson six years after their Stephen King adaptation.

At The Haunting Vision of Mike Flanagan & Kate Siegel at Motor City Comic Con, ScreenRant’s Joe Deckelmeier and Grant Hermanns were in attendance as Flanagan spoke of his past collaboration with Ferguson in the 2019 film Doctor Sleep, which was a sequel to The Shining. Ferguson stated:

[She’s been busy with a] little indie project called Dune, and she’s on season 3 of Silo right now. She still finds the time to do, like, one of the biggest movies on Netflix right now. She’s prolific, but we’re in constant contact. Once, every couple of months, I hear from Rebecca just saying, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ And I’ll say, ‘Hey! Would you like to come do this part? I’d love to talk to you about this thing.’

She’s always booked, but one of these days, it’ll work out for sure. I can’t give away the name of the character, but when I first got The Exorcist, she was one of my first phone calls.

Doctor Sleep, starring Ewan McGregor and Ferguson, followed Ferguson’s character, Rose the Hat, who was the movie’s antagonist and a powerful immortal who preys on children with her psychic abilities. McGregor’s character, Dan, returns to where his trauma occurred years after the events of The Shining to protect a little girl from the same fate.

Despite Doctor Sleep being a critical success with positive reviews for the acting and direction, with a 78% Rotten Tomatoes rating, unfortunately, it failed to gain traction at the box office and grossed $73 million globally. The underwhelming performance led Flanagan to cancel a planned prequel to the movie.

Ferguson is currently working on her continuing role in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune franchise as Lady Jessica, which is currently wrapping filming on Dune: Part Three. She’s also filming season 3 of the TV series Silo, which is expected to be released next year and has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 90%.

Flanagan has two upcoming projects, including a TV series adaptation of Carrie based on Stephen King’s 1974 novel, following a lonely high school girl who ends up being targeted in a prank, but little do they know that Carrie has telekinetic powers. Flanagan’s Carrie, starring Amber Midthunder, Matthew Lillard, and Samantha Sloyan, is due to be released next year.

The filmmaker is also working on an untitled Exorcist project, but not much is known so far about what that will entail. It’s unclear, but with Flanagan’s desire to work with Ferguson again, it’s a potential project the pair could collaborate on once again.
