Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has shocked Kenyans after alleging that some corrupt doctors in the country are secretly removing patients’ kidneys and selling them without consent.

In a strongly worded message shared on his social media pages, Sonko warned the public to be extremely cautious when seeking medical treatment, claiming that a number of unscrupulous medical practitioners have turned hospitals into illegal organ-harvesting centers.

“Guys be careful. There are some corrupt doctors who unlawfully remove patients’ kidneys and sell them without the consent of the patients or their immediate family members,” Sonko wrote.

His statement has sparked panic and outrage among Kenyans online, with many calling on authorities to investigate the shocking allegations. Others expressed disbelief, urging Sonko to provide more details or evidence to support his claims.

The allegations come at a time when the government has been tightening regulations around organ donation and transplant procedures, following reports of rising cases of illegal organ trafficking in parts of Africa.

Medical experts have condemned the practice, saying it not only violates human rights but also tarnishes the reputation of the entire health sector.

Kenyans are now calling on the Ministry of Health and investigative agencies to probe Sonko’s claims and ensure that any doctors involved in such criminal acts face the full force of the law.
