It has been a decade since the controversial Fantastic Four adaptation was released in theaters, giving one of the worst-received takes on the iconic Marvel superhero group. As Marvel’s First Family has been tackled on the big screen numerous times, Josh Trank’s iteration became one of the most-slammed superhero movies of all time.

During his appearance on Sirius XM, Miles Teller, who portrayed Reed Richards in the 2015 film, opened up about his thoughts on seeing the movie for the first time. Teller got candid that “when I first saw the movie, I remember talking to one of the studio heads and said, ‘I think we’re in trouble.'”

The Mister Fantastic star elaborated how “as a young actor at that time, it’s like, ‘Alright, if you want to be taken seriously as a leading man, you got to get on this superhero train.’” For Teller, “That was our chance, and the casting, I thought, was spectacular. I love all those actors.”

However, in the end, the actor called the result of the Fantastic Four disappointing and added that “it’s unfortunate for that, because so many people worked so hard on that movie. And honestly, maybe there was one really important person who kind of f—-d it all up.”

The 2015 installment grossed $167 million at the worldwide box office, with the domestic market only gathering $56.1 million, while the other $111.7 million came from international markets. At the time of this story’s publication, Fantastic Four earned a 9% critics’ score while having an 18% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Fantastic Four cast featured Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Kate Mara as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing, as the 2015 story was inspired by the Ultimate comics that portrayed the heroes as a lot younger. Toby Kebbell played Victor von Doom, a.k.a. Doctor Doom, as he served as the central antagonist.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline recently rebooted the property, as The Fantastic Four: First Steps brought the iconic heroes back to the big screen, set on a different Earth. Directed by Matt Shakman, the film grossed $521.9 million at the worldwide box office.

The team will be part of some of the upcoming MCU movies, as they are set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Fantastic Four is available for home media release and on streaming.
