Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed that the family has conducted a private autopsy and toxicology test to determine the cause of his son’s death but cannot present the results until the coroner’s inquest is reopened.
In an interview with Silverbird TV, Joseph Aloba disclosed that the family undertook the private investigation after rejecting the inconclusive findings from the Lagos State Government.
However, he emphasized that the legal process has delayed access to the results.
He explained, “The coroner inquest was delayed, so I want to appeal to the Lagos state government to reopen the coroner inquest. There are a lot of things we should be doing now. We have done the private autopsy, but I cannot present the result now until the coroner is opened.
“I, myself, have not witnessed the result. The order was given to us from the court, so it is not something they will present to me. They need to present it to the court, but the court was closed.”
Aloba further revealed that the legal order from the court mandates the presentation of the results in court, which remains closed.
“I paid for it, but I can’t demand for the result. When I asked him, he said how is he going to present it in the court when they ask him if anybody has witnessed the result,” he clarified.
The family pursued an independent autopsy after expressing dissatisfaction with the state’s investigation, which failed to produce conclusive findings.
Permission for the private autopsy was granted by the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, but progress has stalled due to delays in reopening the inquest.
Expressing frustration with the situation, Aloba criticized the prolonged delays, stating, “The issue is delay, and delay results in denial. I appreciate the people working with me, but unfortunately, I’m not satisfied with the way the case is going now.”
