Mokwa Flood: We have recovered 160 bodies so far – Niger govt

The Niger State Government announced on Tuesday that seven additional bodies have been recovered following the recent flood disaster in the Mokwa area, raising the official death toll to 160.

This update was provided in a statement issued in Minna by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman.

According to Usman, “four of the bodies were recovered on Monday and one body was recovered in the early hours of Tuesday, while two more bodies were recovered on Tuesday in the ongoing search efforts.”

He confirmed that all seven bodies have since been laid to rest in the state.

“This development brings the total number of confirmed fatalities from the flood to 160,” the statement reads in part.

In the wake of the tragedy, the Niger State Government urged residents to remain prayerful and composed during this time of shared mourning.

The government also appealed to the public to refrain from disseminating false information that could trigger additional sorrow, fear, or unrest in the affected communities.

It assured that support would continue to be extended to families impacted by the flood and reiterated its commitment to intensifying ongoing relief and rescue operations as the state continues to grieve the loss of lives.
