There was drama at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday as Fuji music legend, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, was nearly run over by a ValueJet aircraft following a heated altercation with airport and airline officials.
Naijaonpoint reports that Kwam1, who was scheduled to board a morning flight from Abuja to Lagos, reportedly violated aviation regulations and was deboarded by the flight crew.
In a viral video that surfaced online, the visibly angry musician was seen standing in front of the aircraft in protest, apparently attempting to stop the flight from taking off.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has now confirmed the incident, describing it as a breach of international aviation safety protocols.
According to a statement signed by the FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the altercation began when Kwam1 attempted to board the ValueJet VK 201 flight with a bottle of alcohol, which is prohibited under aviation laws.
“The passenger tried to board with alcohol. He was warned repeatedly, in line with international aviation security regulations, but declined to comply,” FAAN stated.
FAAN explained that under Annexe 17 of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP), passengers are not permitted to carry liquids exceeding 100ml through security checkpoints unless declared and medically necessary.
Despite multiple warnings from airport security, the musician allegedly refused to surrender the liquid and instead poured it on a security officer, prompting an escalation.
“When asked to step aside for clarification, he refused and proceeded to spill the liquid, identified as alcohol, on the officer,” the statement noted.
Even after the flight captain intervened, Kwam1 reportedly remained uncooperative, leading to the closure of the aircraft doors while the passenger moved to the front of the plane, blocking its path.
The situation was eventually brought under control after personnel from the Aviation Security (AVSEC) unit intervened and escorted the veteran musician away from the aircraft.
He was released after a preliminary investigation, although FAAN has launched a full inquiry into the incident, which disrupted normal airport operations and posed a potential safety hazard.
