More than 735,000 Pillsbury rolls recalled over possible glass contamination

General Mills has recalled more than 735,000 Pillsbury Bread Rolls over possible glass contamination.

The recall impacts two Pillsbury products: Hard Roll Dough and Kaiser Roll Dough. It includes 3,080 cases of Hard Roll Dough with 180 rolls in each case (554,400 total) and 1,260 cases of Kaiser Roll Dough with 144 rolls in each case (181,440 total).

In the recall notice, the Food and Drug Administration said the products may contain “potential foreign material (glass).”

The FDA said the recall was initiated on June 19 and classified as Class II on July 13. A Class II recall means that consuming the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

The recalled products were distributed to Walmart in-store bakeries across 19 states: Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.

“Out of an abundance of caution, in mid-June, we issued a voluntary recall of two frozen dough products baked onsite and sold exclusively at Walmart in-store bakeries in the United States,” General Mills said in a statement. “This voluntary recall is limited in scope, highly contained and all potential impacted product has been removed.”

The recalled rolls are intended primarily for commercial food service, rather than individual customers, according to a description on the General Mills website.

“Freshly baked, scratch-like bread is possible without increasing labor costs,” the description for Kaiser Roll Dough reads. “Simply thaw, proof, and bake pre-portioned dough to make your desired quaintly of rolls.”
