The Director of Mobilization for the Obidient Movement, Morris Monye, has resigned from his position, citing unfulfilled goals, lack of structure, and personal harassment within the organisation.
In a statement personally signed and released to journalists on Thursday, Monye expressed disappointment over the movement’s poor performance during the recent Anambra gubernatorial election, saying it rendered his role “untenable.”
Despite his personal passion and financial contributions to support the presidential ambition of Labour Party’s 2023 candidate, Peter Obi, Monye accused the movement of being neglected by Obi and highlighted a lack of communication with its leadership.
“No funds were provided to the Directorate of Mobilisation. There isn’t even a bank account for the directorate.
“Mr Peter Obi has never inquired about our work in mobilisation, there has been no communication, nothing,” Monye said.
He added that most of the movement’s short, medium, and long-term plans remain unfulfilled. “I won’t be part of optics without real work,” he lamented.
Monye also revealed that he personally raised funds for the Obidient candidate in the Anambra election and initiated a plan to equip polling unit agents with affordable body cameras to ensure accountability, a project he says must now be carried forward by his successor.
“The next director must follow up on this. We have not closed it out yet,” he said.
