Imo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reacted to an alleged court action against its leadership by some individuals, asserting that such a move will not see the light of the day.

The party, through its spokesperson, Lancelot Obiaku, in a press statement stated that the attention of the party leadership was

drawn to a recent report alleging that some members of the party were seeking the nullification of the State Congress that produced the Austin Nwachukwu-led State Executive.

He stated that such a move cannot hold any water, as the party leadership was legally constituted.

Obiaku narrated that on August 31, 2024, in accordance with the timetable approved by the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, the Imo State chapter of PDP held its State Congress, which produced the present executive and was preceded by the ward congress in July and the LGA congress on August 10, 2024.

According to him, those congresses were approved and supervised by the party’s national leadership.

“Approved and qualified delegates of the party, including those from Ideato North and Ideato South LGAs, where the petitioners are said to hail from, voted at the congress.

“It was monitored by security agencies including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and members of the press.

“After satisfying the provisions of section 25(1) of the PDP constitution, the State Congress was held and members of the Imo State Executive emerged meritoriously and have been discharging their duties without any opposition.

“There were no parallel congresses or any petitions challenging the process before, during, or after the Congress.

“The window of appeal provided by the party’s constitution elapsed without ...-Congress Appeal Panel receiving even a single dissenting opinion,” he remarked.

The PDP Spokesperson asserted that the party can confidently state that the petition is frivolous, laughable, and an exercise in futility.

He pointed out that the few individuals, led by one Lambert Eze, pushing the suit are not members of the party, noting that they have

been expelled for alleged indiscipline and anti-party activities.

Obiaku further noted that there is no record showing that they contested for any position during the congress, which according to him rendered their attempt dead on arrival.

“The report that 83 members of the party are seeking the nullification of last year’s State Congress is false and exists only in the imagination of those who concocted it.

“The delegates of Ideato North and Ideato South LGAs who voted in that Congress have since dissociated themselves from the puerile suit.

“The State Working Committee, SWC, and the State Executive Committee, SEC, of the party have worked hard to stabilize the PDP in Imo State, such that the unity, cohesion, and strength of the party are admired by other parties.

“It is, therefore, not surprising that opposition elements are making moves aimed at distracting the party’s focus,” he added.
