Abubakar Mohammed, 27, a prisoner serving a sentence for culpable homicide, was successfully apprehended again by the Borno State Police Command.

Mohammed had escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Center in Maiduguri.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by Ahmed Wakil, the spokesman for the Borno State Command, the prisoner made his escape after the center’s gate collapsed during the most recent rains in Maiduguri.

“On September 15, 2024, at around 3:00 p.m., a vigilant resident of Bulakara Ward in Gubio Local Government Area spotted Abubakar in Gubio town and immediately alerted the authorities.

“In response to the tip-off, a police patrol team swiftly apprehended the escaped convict. Abubakar is now set to be handed back to the Nigerian Correctional Service,” the statement said.

The Command asked the public to be on the lookout and report any unusual activity, adding that attempts are still underway to find other escapees in the vicinity.
