Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has signed into law the ₦109.7bn supplementary budget for 2025, after its swift passage by the State House of Assembly.
The appropriation, which will run from September to December, is targeted at bridging financial shortfalls and strengthening government services in critical sectors.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Philemon Daffi, who presented the bill to the governor for assent, commended lawmakers for the prompt attention given to the budget.
Governor Mutfwang, speaking at the signing ceremony at Government House, Rayfield, emphasised that the supplementary budget was necessary to sustain the momentum of ongoing projects and interventions.
Highlighting security as the cornerstone of Plateau’s socio-economic revival, Mutfwang expressed gratitude to security agencies for their cooperation.
He noted that improved safety in Jos had boosted economic activity, particularly in the hospitality sector.
“Hotels are fully booked because of the confidence visitors now have in our state. This is proof that Plateau is regaining its place as a destination of choice,” the governor said.
However, he admitted that border communities still faced persistent threats, calling for stronger military presence and intensified aerial surveillance to complement ground operations.
Naijaonpoint reports that Mutfwang made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal J. Usman, where he stressed the importance of deploying more platforms to vulnerable areas such as Mushere, Chakfem, Qua’an Pan, Wase, and Kanam.
“We need aerial cover in some of these difficult terrains. I urge the Nigerian Air Force to expedite deployment to ensure sustained peace across Plateau,” the governor appealed.
Mutfwang also assured continued collaboration with the Air Force and other security agencies, while urging local communities to support military formations in their areas.
In his response, Air Vice Marshal Usman thanked the governor for the support given to the Nigerian Air Force, pledging to sustain efforts in securing the state.
“We are here, sir, to thank you for the support we’ve received. My visit is also to assess operational readiness and review our activities to ensure professional efficiency across the state,” he said.
Usman further announced plans to hold the Air Force Provost Conference in Jos, describing it as a show of confidence in Plateau’s safety.
He urged personnel at the Air Force Base in Kerang, Mangu LGA, to strengthen civil-military relations and work closely with local communities to protect the state’s territorial integrity.
