Veteran Nollywood actress Eucharia Anunobi has once again shared the heartbreaking story of losing her only son, revealing the painful circumstances surrounding his death and the emotional toll it continues to take on her life. Watch What Happened.
In an emotional interview, Anunobi said her son, Raymond Ekwu, died due to what she described as medical negligence, despite her relentless efforts to save him. Raymond, who battled Sickle Cell Disease for many years, required constant medical attention, financial commitment, and emotional support.
“My son died out of medical negligence,” she said. “He was a sickle cell patient, and I tried my best. I spent millions.”
Anunobi explained that she did everything within her power as a mother to ensure her son received the best care possible, spending millions of naira on treatments, medications, and hospital visits in the hope of prolonging his life.
She described raising a child with sickle cell disease as one of the most challenging experiences of her life, citing the severe pain episodes, frequent hospitalizations, and constant health complications that required careful monitoring.
Despite these challenges, Anunobi remained determined to give her son a fighting chance, often balancing her acting career with the responsibility of caring for a child with a chronic illness. Raymond passed away in 2017 at the age of 15, a loss that devastated her and shocked the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Since his passing, Anunobi has continued to speak publicly about the struggles families face when dealing with sickle cell disease, using her platform to raise awareness about the condition and the importance of proper medical care. She has also emphasized the need for improvements in the healthcare system to prevent cases of medical negligence, noting that many families silently endure similar tragedies due to inadequate medical attention.
