THE African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State has suspended its state chairman, Godwin Williams, over allegations of anti-party activities.
Williams’ suspension was announced by the party’s Transitional Leadership Team (TLT) following a petition accusing him of actions deemed harmful to the unity and growth of the party in the state.
However, the suspended chairman has rejected the decision, insisting it is invalid.
The suspension was decided at a TLT meeting held today in Keffi Local Government Area, presided over by the party’s leader, John Abdul.
According to a statement by the ADC’s spokesperson, Idris Ojoko, Williams was suspended for 14 days pending the outcome of investigations by a Disciplinary Committee constituted by the TLT.
Ojoko also disclosed that the party’s former secretary, Paul Ajeh, has been appointed as Acting State Chairman, while Umar Babayaro will serve as Acting Secretary during the suspension period.
He explained that the allegations against Williams include failure to recognise the party’s National Working Committee led by Senator David Mark, refusal to integrate coalition members into the ADC structure in Nasarawa State, and reporting some party leaders to the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police as alleged impostors.
Other accusations, Ojoko said, involve the creation of parallel party structures at different levels, interference with the establishment of party offices across the state in violation of NWC directives, and obstruction of the ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise.
The party also announced the formation of a Disciplinary Committee chaired by Barrister Hassan Yakubu, with Amina Zanwa, Mamman Sunday, and Yunus Sidi as members, while Gaza Auta will serve as secretary.
Reacting to his suspension, Williams dismissed the action, claiming that those behind it lack the authority to do so.
He argued that the coalition members involved are not legitimate party members and accused them of attempting to destabilise the ADC to favour the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
Williams maintained that he remains the substantive chairman of the ADC in Nasarawa State until the expiration of his tenure, insisting that the suspension has no legal or constitutional backing within the party.
