Staff of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) have taken to the streets in Abuja to protest alleged poor welfare conditions, unpaid allowances and neglect by the Commission’s management.
The demonstration is being led by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), NASC chapter, with workers demanding immediate action on their outstanding financial entitlements.
The protesters accused the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Dr Saviour Enyiekere, and other commissioners of failing to give staff welfare the attention it deserves.
They said unpaid allowances and financial pressures have left some workers struggling to meet basic family needs, including their children’s September school fees.
According to the workers, the situation has become increasingly difficult as they continue to wait for payments owed to them.
Some protesters also criticised the management over alleged frequent official travels by the chairman and commissioners, claiming that staff welfare has been pushed down the list of priorities.
“Our allowances must be paid, and the management must address the hardship facing workers,” the protesters demanded.
The workers carried placards with messages including, “Our Saviour is choking us,” “Pay our allowances,” and “Senate President, please save National Assembly Service Commission from collapse.”
Another placard appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu, reading, “Tinubu, your children are hungry in NASC.”
The latest protest comes about a year after NASC workers staged a similar demonstration at the Commission’s headquarters in September 2025.
During that protest, the workers reportedly barricaded the main entrance while demanding improved welfare, payment of outstanding allowances and greater support from management.
The employees had also complained that rising living costs were worsening their financial difficulties, accusing the Commission of failing to provide adequate welfare assistance.
Placards displayed during the earlier protest included messages such as “Our Management Failed Us,” “Where is our Saviour?”, “Hunger is Killing Commission Staff,” and “Medical for All.”
The workers had insisted at the time that their protest would continue until the management addressed their grievances.
The renewed demonstration signals that the issues raised by NASC staff last year remain unresolved, with workers again calling for urgent intervention to improve their welfare.
