Preparations for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention gathered momentum on Thursday as officials of the Venue Sub-Committee declared that all arrangements were firmly on course in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Speaking with Punch at the convention ground, the Secretary of the Venue Sub-Committee and lawmaker representing Ibadan North West/South West Federal Constituency, Olajide Stanley, said structures were already taking shape ahead of Friday’s event.
“At this moment, if you look around, the stages are coming up, the flags are flying, rebranding is going on, and we are ready,” he said.
Stanley, who was at the venue alongside Oyo State Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, confirmed that the setup had reached a significant milestone.
He further stated, “I’ll say we’re about 60 per cent ready in terms of setup, and the convention is going on full force. We are extremely delighted that we are moving forward under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, the host governor. We are ready.”
On challenges encountered so far, Stanley admitted that logistics, particularly road congestion, posed the biggest hurdle.
“Logistics-wise, yes, because the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is a bit congested right now. You can imagine about 6,000 people trying to get to Ibadan for this event tomorrow,” he explained.
According to him, heavy-duty trucks transporting staging and sound equipment were also contributing to the gridlock.
“Those are just the logistics challenges we’re facing. By and large, we are ready,” Stanley emphasised.
Stanley expressed confidence that the convention would proceed smoothly, commending Governor Seyi Makinde for his coordination and support as host governor.
“We are extremely delighted… under the leadership of Seyi Makinde. We are ready,” he reiterated.
