THE Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has approved the commencement of domestic flight operations by Enugu Air, marking a major milestone for the newly launched state-backed airline.
According to a statement released yesterday by NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the approval allows Enugu Air to operate commercially through a partnership with XEJet, pending the completion of its own Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
Enugu Air was officially launched on July 7, 2025, at an inaugural ceremony attended by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
The airline kicks off operations with three Embraer 170 jets, each capable of carrying approximately 76 passengers.
The partnership allows Enugu Air to operate using XEJet’s existing certification framework, following the successful integration of the Embraer E170 into XEJet’s Operations Specifications. Tickets are currently available via the XEJet platform, with users redirected from Enugu Air’s official website.
This collaboration supports the Aviation Minister’s 5-Point Agenda, which includes strengthening indigenous carriers and improving the ease of doing business in the aviation sector.
“The NCAA has granted approval for Enugu Air to begin commercial operations in line with the Honourable Minister’s agenda to grow domestic airlines and promote a more competitive aviation industry,” the statement read.
The regulatory agency reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, consumer protection, and fair market practices within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
